About

I'm Klaus Hartung, a photographer living in Peterborough, New Hampshire. I photograph people, places and dogs, and for more than twenty years my camera has come with me from the tuna auction at Tokyo's Tsukiji market to the seaweed farms of Zanzibar and the cloud forests of Madeira.

I'm a scientist by training. My PhD research explored how we hear where a sound comes from, and the lab taught me patience and an eye for small cues. Both shape how I work behind the camera: I wait for the light to settle, for a person to relax into their own expression, and for a dog to forget the camera is there.

I take on portrait and dog sessions, and selected photographs will soon be available as fine-art prints.
